The IARC Initiative for Resilience in Cancer Control (IRCC) is a collaborative project that aims to investigate the impact of health crises on cancer services, including health system disruptions and mitigation strategies.
The goal of the IRCC is to develop tools for countries to strengthen health systems resilience for cancer control. To achieve this goal, the IRCC uses a mixed-methods approach by assessing cancer surveillance systems and cancer indicators alongside in-depth assessment through stakeholder interviews and workshops, with a focus on low- and middle-income countries:
The IRCC was launched in 2020 through a request to the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) Governing Council and Scientific Council to support IARC in investigating the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on cancer services, including health system disruptions and mitigation strategies. To capture health crises in a broader sense, the activities of the IRCC have been expanded to include high-threat pathogens, natural disasters, and humanitarian crises.
